Which mobile game genres actually suit a phone

Not every genre translates to a phone equally. Some feel like they were made for it, while others clearly wish they were on a controller. Knowing which is which saves you a lot of frustrated downloads.

Puzzles, card games and turn-based RPGs are natural fits. They're paced for tapping and don't punish you for pausing. You can play a turn, put the phone down, and pick up later without missing a beat.

Racing and arcade games work well when the developer commits to touch — simple inputs, forgiving handling. Real-time strategy is trickier, but a good pause system and smart grouping can make it playable, as long as you accept some fiddliness.

The genres that struggle most are twitchy shooters and anything needing precise camera control with two thumbs. They can be fun, but on a small screen they often ask more of your hands than a phone comfortably allows.
